Challenge #8 - DONE. For the most part.

Look at that!  The team has finally pulled it together!  After having the final password for a couple of days, they found that the password hints had formed the complete password already.  Their reward includes 1 point for each person, as well as an additional 'stress card' to be given to the team.

Mandatory gear list will be emailed to all participants Tonight.  Registration closes on Thursday.  This is the last challenge that will be issued.  Get some rest, and be prepared.

More updates

Things are starting to solidify for this event!  The team is currently at 34 points after unlocking easy cards, and challenge #8 is well underway!  The class size is now at a record 25 participants and it's looking like we're going to have two instructors for this event to make sure things go smoothly.  To make things fun, we're going to be having door prizes at the end of the T3 that each person will roll the 120 sided dice to win.  Here are the current prizes that we're giving away:

  • TWO free entries to any GORUCK light or tough of your choice (Ingress event works too)
  • Free entry to Mud Titan, which is happening on the 27th of August
  • BattleFrog arm sleeve
  • USMC Camelback
  • BattleFrog head scarf

The best part is that most of those prizes automatically recoup the mere $49 entry for the T3, too!

Points update

As the team carries on with challenges 7 and 8, they have been doing a lot of work getting their perks and points in order.  As of now, the team's total points tallies up to 49, with two perks already unlocked.  It's not too late to join them, since registration closes up to the night before the event!

Which means to the 10+ people who have constantly expressed their interest in doing this event..
It's time to nut up or shut up :)

Challenge #8 - The Great Hunt

Welcome to the challenge to define all challenges!  This challenge has no due date, but has some serious rewards for completion.  This challenge will require folks to work together for sure.  The challenge begins with one single piece of information:

28°36'06.3"N

Want more?  It'll cost you.  If the next hint result will yield a burpee point or any other incremental reward, you'll get the heads up.  This next one however, will not give you anything but the next set of coordinates.

To unlock the next hint, the team may submit a workout video/result.  The number after the workout is the max number of times that particular submission may occur to unlock a hint.

  • 40 burpees (0)
  • 5 mile run at a 10:00/mi or faster pace (0)
  • 10 mile run at a 10:00/mi or faster pace (1)
  • 2 minute plank (0)
  • 25 eight-count bodybuilders (0)
  • 55 pushups (0)
  • 18 mile run at a 10:30/mi or faster pace (infinite)

When a hint is unlocked, you'll know about it in the edits to this challenge below

Burpees have been cashed in to acquire another hint.  The number of burpee submissions has been accounted for in the list above (from 2 to 1, now).

Acquired information so far

Hint 1:  28°36'06.3"N   81°16'00.1"W
Hint 2:  That is the coordinates of a data drop.  On that area will reside a USB drive hidden somewhere.  You must retrieve the drive and await further instructions.  It is currently unknown when the data drive will be present on site, or how 'hidden' it is.
Hint 3:  The drive will be at the location no earlier than 11am on the 30th of July.
Hint 4:  One of you must pick up the drive.  In it lie two encrypted documents requiring the team to unlock the password on each document.  The documents contain vital information about the progression towards the next reward and more.  The next hint gives 1 point to each person.  The first character of the password on one of the documents is 2.  Photo hints of how to find the drive will be posted in the future.
Hint 5:  The next character in the password is 4.

Hint 6:  The next character in the password is Re. Hey, you got two this time!  Yay!
Hint 7:  The next character in the password is QP.  Another two!  The next hint will include the two documents being posted to the group page, just in case we've got any encryption experts out there.
Hint 8:  The next character in the password is k7.  The encrypted documents have been leaked into the event page.  So far the characters unlocked are 24ReQPk7.
Hint 9:  The next character in the password is 8.  No more relays are allowed.
Hint 10:  The next character is T.  The next hint will reveal the mandatory gear list immediately.
Hint 11:  We're still giving hints?  Alright, here's one.  Get some rest.  Hydrate well for the week and start carb loading on Monday.  Yes, there's another password protected document, but the password should already be known by now.

Challenge #7 - Adventure time!

Let's depart from our usual athletic challenges and go on a little adventure, shall we?  The purpose of this challenge is to organize roles and establish a line of communication with your team, which is going to be needed for this event.  This adventure entails a lovely little scavenger hunt.  In order for the team to all earn a point, you will need to provide the following selfies to the event page -

• at the beach

• in front of city's tallest building

• at the highest allowable floor of your city's tallest building

• in the woods

• in front of a mound of gravel or sand that's at least 15 feet high

• at the entrance of a university

• inside ninjafit gym in Orlando

• in front of a gazeebo

• in front of a boat

A couple of rules and bits of useful information:

▪ only one person per submission.

▪n photoshop or depictions of the object.  You've got to physically be there.

▪ object must be closer than 100 meters from you.

▪ challenge due 31 July at 1050pm

Challenge #6

Since the topic of the trivia is the 90's, let's have a little fun, shall we?  This next challenge is going to be really simple but awesome.  Let's begin!

• Pick your favorite song from the 90's and have it playing in the background

• That song must last long enough for you to do 30 burpees while it's playing.

• Before you begin, tell us what your favorite memory from the 90s was.

• Do this, and you earn a point!  Video submissions can be done anywhere so long as the Cadre is tagged or given the heads up.

• Completion by 10:00pm on Thursday earns you a point.

• As a bonus, since this is on throwback Thursday, submitting the most awkward 90's photo of yourself with the submission earns you another point!

• To the youngsters who were born too late to experience this amazing yet awkward decade, you can make stuff up for this challenge. My condolences on you missing out on the mullet and short jean shorts.

Challenge #5 - Gimme 100!

Good ol' running is super important to become a regiment elite. That's why multiple pregame challenges typically involve running (in the heat of the summer, no less).  That's why challenge #5 will demand more of said running.  This time, there is no order to the runs. We're just looking for pure quantity here. Here's how it's gonna go down:

 • Each person can submit up to two non-treadmill runs.

• Run must be faster than 10:30/MI

• Runs must be submitted in a single post/comment thread in the Facebook event page.

• All of the runs must eventually total up to 100 miles.

• Failure to reach 100 by Sunday at 10pm removes 1 point from everyone.

• Completion results in 1 point earned for everyone.

That's all!  Have fun and stay hydrated and safe in this oppressive heat!

Update!

The team caught on.  The total point count is 80.  The reason why it's not more is because people signedup after a challenge reward was given, excluding them from the points.  This is why it's important to register ASAP!  Nevertheless, 80 is still greater than 50.

Alright, so the perks list has now been spit-shined into a new graphic, horray!

Challenge 5 is going to be a bit of an adventure...

More on challenge 4

As is promised, here is some more juicy info for you weirdos:

Total point count is currently 55
The trivia subject will be the 90s.  This ranges from politics, technology, geography, geopolitical conflict, pop culture and music.

Well done!

The team has successfully counted to 15!  Now it's time for their reward.  They have each gained +2 points, and the perks have now been revealed and unlocked.  Now, the snazzy graphic for them won't be released until Monday, but here is what it will consist of:

Stress card (2/5 unlocked)   (15 pts)
Relieve one person of their ruck for 1 lap of their choosing

Easy Cards (40 pts)
Card game will be permanently set to easy mode

Course cutter (50 pts)
Remove one mile from the six mile run

Point booster (25 pts)
1 redeemed point now relieves you of 5 burpees or 4 bodybuilders instead of 4 and 3.

Second chance (35 pts)
Team gets to re-roll their diceroll if the first roll isn't desirable

Ignorance is bliss (35 points)
Instead of having two people chosen for trivia, three may now be chosen to answer.
The team may miss up to two countries in the geography test as well.

Ruck wings (40 pts)
Instead of 20% bodyweight minimum for your ruck, that number is bumped down to 17%

Prophetic vision (40 pts)
The entire course agenda for lap 0, 1 and 2 will be revealed sometime before the T3 begins.

The geography test during lap 4 will be for the continent of Asia.  You have plenty of people and plenty of time to study specific regions and get this one right.  If you're unsure about which country is where, google earth is your friend.

Challenge #4 - Let's count!

This challenge is a doozy.

You're all going to have to count to 15.  What that means is that each person must run, with their mileage being their count.  For example, one person runs 1 mile and screenshots the result, then a different person does 2 miles... up to 15 miles.  Now there are a lot of conditions to this challenge, so listen up:

  • One person per run.  You can't double it up.
  • Runs must be submitted IN ORDER.  Cadre will confirm submissions so the next may follow.
  • Must submit the runs in the event page.
  • No treadmills.
  • No pausing the run.  You go nonstop.  If you have to stop to drink (please do), record it too.  It is super easy to tell if you stopped the run, by the way.
  • Pace must be faster than 12:00/mi.
  • Final mileage must be within +/- 0.10 miles of your designated number.
  • If you're injured and running is a hindrance, there is no time hack for you.  Walk it and convince the team to be mile #1.
  • Challenge is due July 9th, 10:38pm

  • Now.. the rewards:
    • Count below 5 - minus 2 points to everyone
    • Count above 5 - no loss, no gain
    • Count to 8 - everyone gains a point
    • Count to 10 - perks are revealed and redeemable immediately
    • Count to 12 - everyone gains another point
    • Count to 14 - team earns two ruck-free coupons that are redeemable for any lap of the T3.
    • Count to 15 - trivia subjects and/or geography are revealed

Challenge #3 - Congrats Tim Bonnes!

Regiment Elite Tim Bonnes has celebrated 18 years of service in the army today!  To help congratulate this awesome man, we're going to dedicate our third challenge to him!  18 shall mark the rep count.  Here are the rules:

  • Submit your video on the event page
  • Be sure to congratulate Tim on his service!
  • Perform 18 eight count bodybuilders, and then 18 pushups immediately after.  Proper form or it doesn't count!  What's a bodybuilder and/or proper pushup?  Use the mighty google and find out, smart guy :)
  • Have anything Army or Team Regiment related visible in your video, get a bonus point.  Only up to four people can redeem this.
  • Complete it with Independence day fireworks going off in the background (real ones) and earn an extra point.
  • Completion earns you a point.
  • Challenge is due 4 July at 11:59pm.

Challenge #2 - Birthday Burpees!

Team Regiment founder Neil's wife turns 30 today!  To help her feel special (and to encourage her to keep letting her husband take weekends off to host these silly events), we're going to do a burpee video challenge for her!  Obviously the burpee count will be 30, but the speed you do it in will effect the reward.  Here are the rules:

  • Chest to ground when you go down, feet off the ground when you go up.  Make it right.
  • You must start off by wishing Katie a happy 30th birthday in the video. (tagging her helps)
  • Finish 30 burpees in the following time hacks to get the following points
    • 4 points - < 1 minute
    • 3 points - < 1 minute 15 seconds
    • 2 points - < 1 minute 25 seconds
    • 1 point - < 2 minutes
  • Challenge is due by Monday the 27th at 11:59pm

Perks will be revealed soon...

Challenge #1 - What does it mean to you?

The April T3s introduced a new perspective to each class.  Everyone in each class were instructed to bring one medal/bib/headband/patch that they worked the hardest for.  Each person gave a short description of why they brought that medal, and what it means to them.

So we'll start your first challenge off easy.

Before 11:59pm Thursday, you must post on social media a picture of your medal and what it means to you and why you chose it.  You can post it anywhere so long as Team Regiment (the FB page) and/or tentative cadre Neil is tagged in it.  Be creative!  Some of the stories that we've heard in the past were truly inspiring, which is what we in Team Regiment strive to do - inspire others.  You'd be surprised how strong you really are.

Shia has once again motivated! SIX have registered.

Thank you, Shia.  Your clever and encouraging words have brought people out of the crowd of the cold meek souls who merely claim "I'll one day do it" and into the arena.  Our team's motto is "Feel the pain of discipline, or feel the pain of regret", but a better quote leading up to this monster of an event is "You cannot build a reputation on what you're going to do".

Let that sink in for a hot minute.

Expect challenge 1 to be out within a day.

3 so far

As is typical with the start of the T3 announcement, a flood of people announce their intent to do the T3.  However, few put their money where their mouths are and actually register.  Who can blame them?

However, a little Shia motivation never fails.  Brace yourselves, registration is about to increase to 1,000:

Begin transmission of the August 20th T3 Night Ops

The scorching beaches of St. Augustine await.  Registration has now opened and the first few people have already entered the arena.  As is customary, points and perks are not revealed until we reach 5 registrants.  Challenges might be a little different this time as well.

This is it.

They made it. 12 signed up. 1 didn't show, and 1 dropped. We have some new elites. I'm so proud of them.
