The Final Perks

It looks like the team was late in getting their final unlocks in... oops!  That's too bad.  However, the requested perks of 2 stress cards and fixed dice...

WILL be unlocked.

At a dire expense.

Everybody's point count has been zeroed out.  Everybody will be starting the T3 with ZERO points to their name.  It could always be worse.  Oh yes it can.

Challenge #10 - Can you read through time while doing eight counts and running?

Welcome to challenge #10.  What happened to 9?  Well, if Microsoft can go from Windows 8 to Windows 10, we're going from 8 to 10 as well.  This challenge is going to be an easy one, so sit back and relax!  Cadre Neil has come to the realization that all elites must now be held to an admirable and unique standard, which must be demonstrated prior to entering the T3.  Here are the rules and tasks for the next challenge, due TONIGHT at 11:59pm:

  • Each runner must run a route spelling out "Regiment" in low gothic script font
  • Since we're in 2015 the runner must run 2015 miles minimum, meaning your "Regiment" will be planted in the center of the United States, most likely.
  • At the time of this post, it is 7:35am, so your pace per mile must be 7:35/mi minimum.
  • At the end of the run, each runner must acquire an autographed portrait of Kim Jong Un.
  • This is a non-reward challenge, and is completed to avoid the penalty - doing the entire T3 with an active hornets nest in your ruck.  The hornets will be upset.

Seemingly unnecessary edit:  April fools, though some photoshopped results would garner a nice laugh :)

Crunch time

Dropouts are commonplace in the week preceding the T3, and this one is no exception. So far two have had to drop out for health reasons, leaving a class size of 15.   They may want to start unlocking their perks before more points fade away with each drop.  After all, they have until Thursday at 10pm to submit their final unlocks before points are locked in and given a new purpose. They also might want to check previous posts for edits.   Only two people have gotten their waivers, so here is hoping that they are privy to sharing. Oh the delight of punishing those who fail to bring their mandatory gear...

There will be plenty of media coverage of this event, in which two people will be giving live updates to this page now!

Challenge #8 - Can you read?

Another day, another challenge.  This challenge is going to be quite different from the rest, simply because it's not so much of a challenge than a mandatory gear list.  This challenge is due at 0730 on the 4th of April.  So here we go:

The individual must bring:

  • A rucksack/vest/backpack containing no less than 16% bodyweight
  • A source of hydration (it will be hot out).  Water/Gatorade will be available at the checkpoint for refill
  • A source of nutrition, you can have this on you or you can have it at the checkpoint.  The T3 staff will have nutrition for you, but if you have your own special preference you're welcome to bring it.
  • Emergency contact information present on you at all times.  It will be hot out and it's very possible that you may succumb to heat exhaustion if you're not careful.
  • A signed waiver ready to be turned in at 0730 when the event begins.  Use the 'contact us' section of this website to send in your request for the waiver, or get it from somebody who has already gotten one.  You're smart, figure it out.
  • One headlamp.

As a collective whole, the team must have the following by 0730 on Saturday:

  • Six (6) five gallon buckets
  • A picture of Gary Busey, signed by every member of the team.  The crazier the picture, the better
  • One soccer ball (or futbol, for you FIFA purists)
  • The best attitude you can possibly muster up for what's about to befall you.

Though the event begins at 0730, it is recommended you are present five minutes prior to its start.  For every five minutes that ONE member if the team is late, the entire team will have to do 50 burpees each.  Also there will be an optional pre-game 'warmup' event beginning at 0645 at the starting location.  Those who show up to this may have something good or bad happen to them, depending on your luck.

EDIT - it might be wise to bring gloves. You don't want to slice your hands up if you're stacking a bunch of heavy rocks.

Challenge 6 submission

The team has submitted the picture of their challenge!  No word yet on their running distance and their pace, so no completion yet. Though it does look pretty good.

Update - looks like they have given their times and distances and everything checks out. They now free from all bad perks!

Challenge #7 - the media challenge

This particular challenge is famous among those who partook in the spartan death race.  The rules are very much alike, in fact. Each person must have some form of media coverage about their training, background or anything pertaining to the T3. Here are the precious rules that cannot be broken:

- no more than two people per website.

- each person must have their own individual article about them

- challenge is due by Thursday at 10pm

- completion of the challenge earns you one point.

- article must include a link somewhere to the regiment page so people interested in your adventures can learn more

That's all.  If you're doing savage race tomorrow, look for Margaret from dirt in your skirt / mudrun guide. She just might get you on video about your adventures!

Another perk unlocked

The elites currently doing the T3 seemed to have learned a valuable lesson from the last T3, which was to know your trivia and geography ahead of time.  With the pain of doing lap 0 all over again still fresh in their minds, they have convinced the team to unlock the trivia/geography perk.  How do we know that the elites were behind this decision?  As of now there are not one but two moles in their secret group that will occasionally give the cadre full access to the group.  On to the unlock:

Looks like things are really shaping up for these guys!  Now that they have this perk, they will have less than two weeks to completely know the names of the 53 countries that fit into the continent of Asia below:

And for good measure, 28 countries in the picture below:

Seem like a lot?  Fortunately there are a lot of people in the class, and they're really smart too!  To be fair, the cadre at the T3 will name all of these countries off on his own to prove it isn't that hard to memorize.  Just be happy you don't have to memorize the capitol cities.

As as for the trivia subjects, the subject for the trivia this time will be Germany.

Challenge #6 - Hooked on Phonics

We've seen that our T3 candidates can run, count and even travel through time...
But can they spell?

Time for Challenge #6.  Since we're two weeks away from the T3, the "Mr. Nice Guy" period has ended, and the rules will be very strict.  Each member of the team is to run a route that forms a letter, where each letter combines to form a word of their choice.  Sounds fun!  Until you break down the rules:

  • Each letter must be no shorter than 3.5 miles in distance
  • The pace of the run must be faster than 9:31/mi
  • The word(s) must be at least 13 characters in length
  • Must be an actual word
  • Failure to meet 13 characters means -2 points to every member of the team
  • Only registered members of the team can participate in this challenge
  • No points will be given for the completion of this challenge.  Sorry
  • Reach 15 characters, and the last bad perk gets removed
  • Final submission must have all of the words cropped together in a single image.
  • Challenge is due 10pm, March 27th
  • Team can spend 10 points by 10pm Wednesday to extend the due date to March 29th, 10pm

There will be at least one more challenge after this one.  One of which will be the team's final instructions and mandatory gear list for this event.

Extra Credit - Savage Race

Those who run Savage Race a week from today with a rucksack containing 20% bodyweight will earn 2 points for the T3.  Those who run with the team flag will also earn a point.  You must run the entire course with these objects on you.

Challenge #5 COMPLETE

With submissions coming in the last minute, the team of 17 has now raked in THREE points each!  Never has a challenge given out so many total points (51 total!).   That may seem generous, but have you ever played a video game where you have a plethora of power-ups, ammo and gear in one room?  It always means you're going to need every last bit of them, because the final boos is just moments ahead...

For now, the rest of the team needs to get their asses out of 1985!

To anybody else registering, only eight spots in the class remain. Why eight?  Because the cadre doesn't have any more patches left.

Perks, challenges and more.

A lot has happened since the last update!  The class size is now at 16!  In addition, the team has unlocked some serious perks.  First of all, only ONE bad perk remains.  Foul Gambit is the last bad perk that the team must overcome, which can be done by future challenges, or by overriding via the good perks.  As for the good perks, the team has chosen to unlock breaking bad as their first perk.  Here is what we've got so far:

In addition, the cadre has submitted his entry for challenge 4!  It's... interesting.

Challenge #4 - Time Travel

As of 8:13pm Wednesday, the class size has grown to 15!  Woo hoo!  In other news, it's time for another challenge.

If the single-universe theory holds true, time travel in reverse is impossible unless a mass-less object can surpass the speed of light.  Let's say this were possible, and we've gone back to the year 1985.  Let's also say that in our imaginary world it were only possible to travel back to your rightful time of 2015 through eight-count bodybuilders!  If you're following on the math, that's 30 long years that one must travel to get back to our rightful era.  In this challenge, you must successfully travel back to 2015 through the completion of eight count bodybuilders in the following fashion:

  • Your video submission must have a song from 1985 playing loudly in the background.
  • After every completion of your eight-count, you must count to the next year.  So you'd say "1986" after your first bodybuilder, then "1987"... etc.
  • You must complete this time travel process in under 2 minutes and 55 seconds, or you will be forever locked into the year you last declared.   You will also fail the challenge.
  • Completion of this challenge before 10pm Friday March 21 2015 will result in you earning 1 burpee point.
  • Yes, I was drinking when I issued this challenge.

Some of you are confused as to what an eight count is, so here is a video of a person doing two of them:

Perks!

The class size has now grown to 14. The team is one more away from the next milestone. What's the next milestone? One bad perk will be removed, however they will have 24 hours to purchase a good perk or else everybody loses a point.

The 24 hours starts the moment that candidate 15 registers. That's all for now.

Challenge #5

Let's see how well you can count. The team must now count to 11. How will this counting be done? With running, of course! Here is how it's going to go down:

Each runner will assign a distance to them between 1-11 miles.

Runner number 1 submits their 1 mile run. Then runner 2 submits their 2 mile run, until 11 is reached.

Runs must be submitted in order. Ascending or descending. Doesn't matter.

Not reaching 11 results in -2 points for every teammate.

Reaching 11 results in +1 for the whole team. Every number after that results in an additional point.

Runs must be run at a 9:30/mi pace or faster.

Challenge is due at 10pm this Thursday.

Challenge 2 and 3 and bad perks

A lot of updates, with little access to a computer to provide said updates (sorry).

Challenge 2 and 3 have been issued out to the team, and they are slowly but surely being completed.  Here is the rundown of each challenge:

Challenge 2

  • 30 pushups with 20% BW in a ruck, 1 point
  • Due 10pm, Wednesday

Challenge 3

  • 6 mile run, 1 point
  • All mile splits +/-15s of the first mile, 1 additional point
  • Run done on the beach, 1 additional point
  • Due 10pm, Thursday

The team has also chosen to remove Heavy Burden and Silenced from their list of bad perks.  In case they're reading this, another bad perk will be removed (their choice) if the class size reaches 15 by 11:59pm this Friday.  This shouldn't be too difficult considering the amount of people who have been doing these challenges already that have yet to register.

Challenge one COMPLETE

With just an hour left on the buzzer, ALL of the team have submitted an entry to the first challenge.  Since it's clear that the team is paying attention to detail right off the bat, we don't have to go through the initial learning process of attention to detail (this is a good thing).

Many who haven't registered yet have completed this challenge (7 in total).  They will have their points added to the team pool as soon as they register.  Here are the current stats:

Registered - 9
Challengers - 7

Registrants who got the special bonus - 2
---------------------
Total points for the team - 19
Total points if challengers register - 31
